You are eligible for the Intensive English Program (IEP), IEP+, and any program of your interest, as long as the IEP requirements are fulfilled. Whether you are an international foreign student abroad or in the US, if you should desire a course of study for longer than three months, then you would need to process an F-1 Visa. Should you wish to study in the US for more than three months, you must apply for an F-1 visa. You may do so from abroad (initial) or from the US while under another visa, (change of status). Should you already have an F-1 visa from another certified school but would like to apply to Lingua, we will process your transfer. In any of the above instances, you must follow these steps to study at Lingua under an F-1 visa:

  • Complete application for Lingua and pay fees (administrative and registration fees total $500, non-refundable)
  • Payment of first term tuition, three months/12 weeks.
  • Payment of SEVIS fee via Department of Homeland Security - Form I-901 (fmjfee.com)
  • Provide documentation: a valid passport for students and dependents, three months of current bank statements proving financial ability (must have funds to cover living expenses, tuition, books, travel, and childcare, if applicable. Sponsor letters are required if the funds are not the student's personal funds
  • If a Change of Status is required, the student must file Form I-539 with USCIS
  • Make an appointment and attend an interview at the US embassy (initial applicants)
  • Once F-1 is approved, change of status students must begin classes immediately. Initial students may enter the US up to 30 days prior to the start date

VISA Requirements for Foreign Students

If you are a tourist for a period of fewer than three months, I do not need to process a change of status. I am eligible to participate in SIEP, PTE, or any other program under 18 hours of class per week.
