PERT CPT Retest Policy Banner.png

The ACCUPLACER (CPT) is a state approved common placement test alternative used by Broward College in place of the PERT test on a case by case basis. This primarily includes students testing at a distance outside of Florida. However, the PERT is still the College's primary placement test. The purpose of the ACCUPLACER (CPT) is to determine accurate course placement based on the student's skills and abilities. ACCUPLACER is an integrated system of computer-adaptive assessments designed to evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The ACCUPLACER (CPT) is adaptive. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question in the order it is given. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then pick from the remaining choices.

The test is untimed, but the average time to complete all three sections in one sitting is approximately 2 hours. A student’s scores determine appropriate course placement. Allot approximately 40 minutes per subject area.

ACCUPLACER (CPT) test scores expire after 2 years. Students with expired scores must retest on the College's primary common placement test.
*There is a retest fee for all retest attempts regardless of the age of previous scores.

  • Non-Broward College students wishing to take the ACCUPLACER for another institution must complete a Remote Testing request. Requests must be approved by Broward College AND the students home institution.
  • Broward College students cannot request to take the ACCUPLACER (CPT). The primary placement test at Broward College is the PERT.
