Broward College Announces Two New Campus Presidents; VP of Academic Affairs

New additions to leadership team include Marielena DeSanctis, Ph.D. as president of its A. Hugh Adams Central Campus; Rolando Garcia, Ed.D. as president its Judson A. Samuels South Campus; and Avis Proctor, Ed.D. as vice president of academic affairs in addition to her current role as president of North Campus.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 12, 2016) After a nationwide search and in-depth selection process, Broward College is pleased to announce it has selected Marielena DeSanctis, Ph.D. to lead its A. Hugh Adams Central Campus as campus president, Rolando Garcia, Ed.D. to serve as campus president of the Judson A. Samuels South Campus, and Avis Proctor, Ed.D. has assumed the role of vice president of academic affairs in addition to her current role as president of North Campus. Dr. DeSanctis, Dr. Garcia and Dr. Proctor began their new roles on July 5, 2016.

As campus president of A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, Marielena DeSanctis, Ph.D. will be responsible for working with faculty and staff to increase student success as well as continue to serve as vice president of student affairs. Previous to becoming campus president, DeSanctis was the vice president for student affairs and academic affairs. Prior to joining Broward College, she served as executive director for curriculum, instruction and interventions for Broward County Public Schools, and as principal of Fort Lauderdale High School. DeSanctis earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology; a master's degree in math education from Nova Southeastern University; and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Florida Atlantic University.

 

As DeSanctis transitions to her new position, Avis Proctor, Ed.D. will assume the role of vice president of academic affairs in addition to her current role as president of North Campus. During her 16-year tenure with Broward College, Dr. Proctor has served as a mathematics faculty member, associate dean, associate vice president, and her current role as North Campus president, where she has served for three years. Dr. Proctor earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics education from Florida A&M University, her master's degree in teaching mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and her doctorate in higher education from Florida International University. 

 

Also joining the Broward College leadership team, Rolando Garcia, Ed.D. will serve as president for the College's Judson A. Samuels South Campus. Dr. Garcia most recently served as interim South Campus president, and joined Broward College as dean of academic resources and assessment in 2014. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Miami, his master's degree in management information systems from Florida International University, and his doctorate in higher education.
