FEATURED: Bold Beauty Project Opening Reception

The Bold Beauty Project is a visual arts project that features women with varying disabilities as seen through the lenses of award-winning photographers. Bold Beauty Project has shown at major international art shows in different parts of the country. Featuring one of Broward College’s own student advisors, Debbie Brecker, the collection is also meant to create transformative experiences for participants and viewers while expanding the concept of what it means to be beautiful. Opening reception will include a lecture and discussion with Shelly Baer, Bold Beauty Project founder. Free and open to the public for viewing through August 31. The League of American Pen Women Fort Lauderdale chapter presents “A Mother’s Love.” Works on display include photography, watercolor, acrylics, oils mixed media and sculpture. Bartosz Beda, Faraz Falahi, and Serena Stevens come from disparate backgrounds, but their work shares a unique view of the world. The images on display as part of “Beneath the Surface” capture glimpses of figures in their environments through loose and textured painted surfaces. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will host its naturalization and refugee awards ceremonies as part of a larger initiative to honor those who were forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. Broward College Continuing Education Program Wins Award

The Continuing Education Program at Broward College received the 2017 Education Partner Notable Newcomer Award from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at its 23rd annual Education Partner’s Conference in New Orleans, La. The award is presented to schools that demonstrate overall success during their initial first year offering of the certification course. SHRM is the world’s largest human resource professional society that offers globally recognized industry based certifications and training for persons in the field. This includes the SHRM Certified Professional (CP) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SCP). Broward College began offering the SHRM CP/SCP course in Fall 2016 with an inaugural group of 13 students completing the intensive program. A hundred percent passed the SHRM SCP certification exam.
