Vice President, Communications and Community Relations

Isabel Gonzalez is Vice President of Communications and Community Relations. She manages community relations and institutional events, marketing, and public relations. Since joining the College in September 2018, Ms. Gonzalez has provided executive-level advisement and leadership to support and advance the College's mission. Her passion for public education comes from being a proud first-generation American and the first in her family to graduate college.

Ms. Gonzalez has over 19 years of experience in the education, economic development, and transportation sectors including Senior Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives at the New York City Department of Education, and Manager of Business & Property Development at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. An Arizona native, Ms. Gonzalez previously led community relations for Mesa Public Schools, and strategic planning and communications for the Office of the Governor of Arizona.

Currently, Ms. Gonzalez serves on the boards of directors for HANDY, Inc., which offers life skills, education, and a supportive community to youth; the Florida Juvenile Justice Foundation, which is committed to improving Florida's juvenile justice system for children and families; and Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County, which provides diverse after-school and summer activities for youngsters. She also represents Broward College on the Coordinating Council of Broward and the Leadership Council of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. Ms. Gonzalez is a Guardian ad Litem volunteer, a 2007 Education Pioneers Graduate Fellow, and a member of the Leadership Florida Cornerstone Class 39.

During her years in New York City, Ms. Gonzalez served on numerous boards including New York Needs You, advocating for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students; Behind the Book, bringing authors into schools to inspire reading and writing; and Rosie's Theater Kids, an arts education organization that provides training in dance, music, and drama for New York City public school students.

Ms. Gonzalez holds a master's degree in Public Administration from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish from Arizona State University.

Ms. Gonzalez spends her off time cycling and rock climbing. She has hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and climbed Bear Lodge (Devils Tower) in Wyoming. A consummate adventurer, Ms. Gonzalez also enjoys international travel with a focus on exploring new cultures and cuisine.
