General Overview

Effective July 1, 2013, the Department of Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness (SSEP) underwent a restructuring. This move included uniting all campus safety personnel under the Associate Vice President of Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness. This move provided a one-college approach to delivering safety and security services and ensured the standardization of these services. The Department of Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness has remained an integral part of Broward College's dedication to developing and maintaining a safe and secure environment to make your time at Broward College as safe and enjoyable as possible.

Broward College does not have a sworn campus police force but employs non-sworn Public Safety Officers. All Broward College Public Safety Officers possess Class D licenses issued by the State of Florida and/or an active law enforcement certification. Their duty is to assist students, staff, faculty, and visitors, provide traffic control and direction, respond to incidents on Broward College property, assist in building evacuations, and identify individuals on college property to determine whether they have lawful business at Broward College.
