Broward College students seeking an associate in arts or bachelor’s degree are required to demonstrate foreign language competence pursuant to Florida Statute 1007.262, Florida State Administrative Code Rule 6A-10.02412, and Broward College Policy and Procedure 4.11.
Students may meet this requirement using one of the options below.
Successful completion of a course at the Elementary 2 level (1121) or higher in one (1) foreign language or American Sign Language.
Broward College currently offers courses in the following languages through the intermediate level: American Sign Language, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, or Spanish
Successful completion of two (2) credits (i.e., the equivalent of two years) in one (1) foreign language at the secondary (high school) level.
Successful completion of the Elementary 2 level (1121) or higher through one (1) of the following credit-by-exams standardized examinations in one foreign language.
A minimum passing score at the Intermediate Low level or higher
Successfully satisfy one of the following criteria.
Non-English Diploma or Degree
Present a valid non-English high school diploma (including but not limited to students who have earned a GED in Spanish) or higher credential from a foreign country.
Completion of EAP Program
Completion of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program requirements by courses or placement test.
Postsecondary Credits - Non-English
Transfer credits earned at a postsecondary institution where the primary language of instruction is something other than English, transcript must be evaluated in the United States.
