*Degree-seeking students entering a Florida public postsecondary institution are required to demonstrate placement into the appropriate level of reading, writing, and mathematics courses. Various placement methods are available including common placement tests which are not 'Pass' or 'Fail' assessments. They are used to determine the best academic starting point for students to be successful in college. Eligibilty and exemption information can be found in the sections below.
*A student enrolled in a Technical Certificate or Applied Technology Diploma program that contains courses requiring college-level placement in reading, writing, and/or mathematics will be required to demonstrate placement using one of the options below in this section.
Based on Florida State Statute 1008.30, Florida State Rule 6A-10.0315, Broward College Policy 6Hx2-5.14, and Broward College Procedure A6Hx2-5.14, there are two (2) categories all students will fall into related to demonstration of placement; exempt and non-exempt. This does not apply to dual enrollment or college academy.
Effective June 1, 2022, EAP students will no longer be eligible to take ACCUPLACER NG or PERT for the reading and writing subtests. EAP students will test only with ACCUPLACER ESL/LOEP for both placement and college readiness assessment. After the initial ACCUPLACER ESL (LOEP) test date, a student may re-test one (1) time after 24 hours from the initial test date within a 12 month period. A retest fee will be assessed. Any additional re-testing requires instructor recommendation and department approval. If approval is granted for an additional attempt, the student must wait 30 days between retest attempts.
EAP students will need to take the math subtest of the ACCUPLACER NG or PERT prior to enrolling in their first eligible math course.
