AI Inclusive

AI-inclusive statements are those that encourage students to explore generative AI. Below is an example:

This course encourages students to explore the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools such as ChatGPT to:

  • Create initial drafts of written work that you will later revise into a final product that reflects your own ideas and input
  • Brainstorm or explore new topics/ideas for your own written work
  • Explore potential counterarguments or opposing points of view
  • Revise your writing by taking suggestions from generative AI to make improvements

Any such use must be appropriately acknowledged and cited according to MLA or APA guidelines.

Mixed

Mixed statements are those that permit students to use generative AI within certain parameters. Below is an example:

  • You may use generative AI to produce portions of your writing, but all generated text must be attributed to AI according to MLA or APA guidelines for citing generative AI tools. You may not generate large chunks of texts with little or no input from you as an author.

AI-Resistant

AI-resistant statements are those that wholly prohibit the use of AI in the classroom. Below is an example:

In this course, you are expected to produce your own work, complete class assignments and discussions yourself, and take class exams, tests, or quizzes without the assistance of others. All academic work must be the result of your own thought, research, or self-expression. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Outsourcing Services and AI: Using an assignment writing service or having another person, student, or artificial intelligence (AI) program write the assignment for you. All use of any assistive writing technologies is expressly forbidden in this course.

All required class activities are automatically submitted to Turnitin for the detection of plagiarism and AI-generated material. If the results of the Turnitin analysis indicate that there is a high likelihood that the assignment text was written by AI, the student will need to schedule an oral exam on the written material. Not passing the oral exam will be considered evidence of violating the academic honesty policy. Any incident of academic dishonesty (plagiarism, cheating, etc.) will result in immediate failure of the course.
