Student Government is an opportunity to grow as a leader, represent your peers, and make a tangible impact at Broward College. Engage with legislative advocacy, plan events, and ensure the student voice is heard.
Student Government (SG) is a Student Scholarship Position that empowers you to represent Broward College and be the voice of students. Each campus has its own Student Government, consisting of a president, vice president, and five additional paid senator positions. Additionally, there is one student chair who represents all Broward College students at the monthly Board of Trustees meetings, serving as their official voice. Represent BC at local and regional conferences, promote legislative advocacy, foster strong citizenship, and develop your leadership skills.
Florida College System Student Government Association
Broward College is part of the Florida College System Student Government Association (FCSSGA). This organization represents the nearly one million students enrolled in the Florida College System's 28 colleges. They promote legislative advocacy and training, leadership development, service-learning, promotion of campus activities, and strong citizenship.
Each year, students have the opportunity to participate in conferences and legislative advocacy through FCSSGA.
Student Government Constitution:
The constitution outlines the structure, responsibilities, and powers of the Student Government. It ensures transparency and accountability within the organization.
Please note that only President and Vice President candidates need to run for office. These two positions are elected by the student body and serve as the foremost figures in SG.
Senators:
If you select Senator, you will not need to campaign. This application will allow you to submit the form showing your interest in the position. Senators will be appointed by the new President and Vice President.
General Members:
General members are welcome to apply throughout the year, but elected positions will follow the timeline set below.
Two All Club Meetings will be held per term. At least one member of each organization must attend every Required Club Meeting. If a member cannot attend the required meetings, an appointment must be made within one week via Student Government. Check with your campus for these dates/time.
Club Funding
In order to utilize funds, clubs must be in good standing. Clubs must obtain approval two weeks in advance of the purchase via Fund Request Form. Clubs may be eligible for $250 per academic term. Additional funding for events up to $250 can be applied for through Student Government.
