The Seahawk Summer Academy classes run over Summer Session 3. Classes usually begin in June and end in August. Check the College's Academic Calendar page for the exact dates for the current year (see Academic Calendar/Term)

The Seahawk Summer Academy (also referred to as summer bridge) does not have a separate application process. Students need to complete successfully the Broward College Admission processes and be cleared of all holds. The specific Seahawk Summer Academy classes are available and posted on this website. Students will follow the same deadline they will follow for any other BC Course. We recommend that students ensure they have all required documentation on file by June 21 to ensure they are able to register for Summer Session 3 classes.

There is no additional Summer Academy application. However, students must be registered in the Seahawk Summer Academy courses as they are listed on this website by the first day of class.

Eligible students will receive a scholarship that will cover the total tuition for both of the courses, and only if they are enrolled in our specific Summer Academy courses by the first day of class. Because these courses are learning communities set-up as cohorts, students cannot add courses from different cohorts but must enroll in the two courses of the same cohort.

Visit the Seahawk Summer Academy Class Schedule page for a list of classes.

The College uses the Financial Aid office to award the Summer Academy scholarships to eligible students.

Eligible students do not need to be FAFSA eligible to be awarded the scholarship. However, we highly recommend all Summer Academy students have a complete FAFSA Application on file for the current and following year, cleared of all red flags.

Eligible students must also be fully admitted into the college, cleared to register for classes and meet Florida Residency for tuition purposes. Please visit our home page to review Summer Academy tuition scholarship eligibility requirements.

We also recommend completing the Broward College Scholarship application for other scholarship opportunities. For more information visit the Financial Aid Office page.

Students are responsible to ensure that Broward College receives their official High School transcripts by the first day of classes (Session 3). It is very important for the scholarship recipients. Since the courses run over Summer Session 3, the turnaround time can be very close to their high school graduation. In that case, we recommend that enrolled students communicate often with their academic advisor to ensure that the College receive their transcripts as soon as possible to retain their scholarship awards.

Yes, the Summer Academy courses run only over session 3 in the summer term. Session 3 courses typically start in June. Remember, classes, are available on all three campuses (North, South, and Central Campuses).

Anticipating this challenge we made sure to select courses that our students will need (see our course schedule page).

The Office of Recruitment usually sends out notifications to prospective high school students and holds various recruiting events for interested students.

Once students are admitted and enrolled, the Office of Student Achievement Initiatives monitors registrations into the listed Summer Academy courses to ensure students are registered for both courses within a cohort. Once registered, our office will contact the students to welcome them to the summer bridge and provide them with information regarding orientations, field trips, closing award ceremony RSVP, etc.

COVID-19 Updates

The Summer Academy courses will be back on campus and in class. Most classes also use Broward College's D2L platform. It is highly recommended to wear a mask in-door for your protection and the protection of your peers in class.

D2L is the online platform Broward College uses to deliver your Summer Academy classes. To learn more about D2L and for tutorials check out our helpdesk.

The College has a limited supply of laptops available to students on a first come first serve basis. If you like to borrow a laptop or a webcam you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (continuing education, non-degree, non-credit, and dual enrollment students are NOT eligible).
  • Be registered and have classes PAID for the current term (or have set up a Nelnet payment plan) prior to your request.

If you meet the criteria and would like to request a webcam, submit an application, go to The Seahawk Outreach Services site to apply.

It is your responsibility to communicate with your professor. You can contact your professor on D2L or on your Broward College student email. It is important to review the tutorial (Using your Student E-mail) to ensure you know how to access your BC student email.

Your professor will contact you on your student email or your D2L email.

Most professors will email you directly on D2L, so it is important that you check both emails. Review the tutorial on how to check your D2L email.
